More and more people, both adults and children are being diagnosed with ADHD.
A common issue among experts and laymen about this increase in ADHD diagnoses is that it is often misdiagnosed and over-diagnosed. People are concerned about patients being over medicated and children being improperly labeled. There is concern that children are being victimized by the medical profession with reckless diagnosis and treatment, while on the other hand, children who have a legitimate diagnosis are being punished for behavior that is not their fault in school and at home.
Undiagnosed and untreated adults with ADHD are suffering on their jobs and in their social lives. Many of these people are not living up to their full potential and they do not understand why they are suffering.
Our position here at the Pinnacle ADHD Counseling Center (PACC) is that all of these are valid concerns. However, we here at PACC are committed to joining the medical and mental health community in continuing to promote awareness of ADHD. We are also committed to partnering with the medical community in order to provide the best treatment for those who need it.
There is a solid diagnostic criteria for ADHD, and there are valid assessment tools and skilled clinicians. There is no reason for people to continue to suffer with ADHD symptoms.

We treat most mental health conditions
What are the signs that you need to seek help?
Trouble functioning at work or in school. The boss has frequent complaints about your productivity, absents, tardiness or social skills. You may notice a change in your work performance or productivity or reduced ability to focus on your work.
Family or household dysfunction. Are you at risk for divorce? Are the children acting out and does the household lack peace and sanctuary?
There are signs of substance abuse. Substance abuse (over use of alcohol, prescription drugs, marijuana, recreational drugs, food sex or even shopping) is often a sign of an underlying mental health issue.
You notice a significant behavior change. Changes in habits that are fear and anxiety based is a big sign. If you notice that you don't feel like doing the things that you normally enjoy such as sex, physical fitness activity, social activity or work, that is a big sign.
Increased irritability or aggression should prompt immediate outreach for help.
Disturbance in sleep pattern may be a sign as well
Any one or a combination of the above issues that are experienced, even briefly, should alert you to explore what may be behind it.
Our assessments are comprehensive. Our treatment plans are goal oriented and brief and usually approached by evidence based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
